Course Description:

AHA’s BLS Course provides the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. Updated to
reflect new 2015 science, BLS teaches the concepts of high-quality CPR, improvement of chest
compression fraction, and high-performing team dynamics.

BLS from AHA offers the advantages of: ~ Content representing the latest resuscitation science for improved patient
outcomes ~ Realistic scenarios, simulations, and animations depicting rescuers, teams, and patients ~ Course and
content flexibility for AHA Instructors and students, including adaptability to local protocols.

WHO SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE?
Healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and
other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.

COURSE COVERS
• New science and education from the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for
CPR and ECC
• The components of high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
• The AHA Chain of Survival for prehospital and in-facility providers
• Important early use of an AED
• Effective ventilations using a barrier device
• Importance of teams in multi rescuer resuscitation and performance as
an effective team member during multi rescuer CPR

The course will combine theory and practice to provide instruction in all aspects of EKG technology and patient care. Students will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system, appropriate patient care, and the legal and medical aspects of patient care. The course will also include comprehensive instruction in EKG placement and interpretation, along with information regarding the role of the EKG in diagnosing and managing cardiovascular problems. In addition to theoretical instruction, students will apply what they are learning in the course through practical, lab-based activities. Upon completion of this course, students will be fully prepared to work as an EKG Technician. Students will be prepared to take the AMCA EKG Technician Certification (ETC) national certification exam.

A Day In The Life

EKG technicians generally work in busy healthcare settings. They work in hospitals, outpatient centers, doctors’ offices, and labs.EKG technician duties may include scheduling patient appointments, performing EKGs (electrocardiograms) and stress tests, preparing patients for Holter or ambulatory monitoring, editing and delivering test results to physicians, transcribing doctors’ notes, and much more. As an EKG technician, you can expect to be on your feet for most of the day as you bring patients from the waiting room to their testing rooms. EKG technicians also may need to offer extra hands-on assistance to the frail and elderly who come in for EKGs.
